PICTOU COUNTY DROPS LUMBERJACKS 6-1

The second place Pictou County Weeks Crushers solidified their hold ahead of the Nauss Tim-Br Mart Lumberjacks with a solid 6-1 win over the third place Lumberjacks. After Jake Lewis scored to bring the home side within one the Crushers responded with four unanswered goals to skate to the win. The Crushers fired 57 shots at Lumberjacks netminder Philip Wright. The Crushers kept up an agressive forechecking game and broke open a close game with two goals in the last half of the second period. The Lumberjacks are still missing Matt Snow (concussion), Matt Fitzgibbons (knee) & Shawn Frank. The next action for the Lumberjacks wiull be this Friday when they host the Yarmouth Mariners. Game time is 7:00 PM at the Bridgewater Memorial Arena.

MARCHAND NETS THREE IN LUMBERJACKS WIN

Nauss Tim-Br Mart Lumberjacks Captain, Jeff Marchand (game's first star), iced the game vs the Halifax Lions with two empty net goals to record the hat-trick and pace his Lumberjacks to a 6-4 wiin over the Halifax Lions in front of 585 appreciative fans in Bridgewater Friday night. The game was a fast paced affair with the Lumberjacks taking a 2-1 lead after one and 4-2 after two. Philip Wright (game's second star) came up big in the third turning aside 17 of 18 shots to keep his club in the lead. With Shawn Frank, Matt Fitzgibbons & Matt Snow not in the line-up, Head Coach Jim Bottomley juggled the lines and the players responded with a good effort. In addition to Marchand's three goals, the Lumberjacks also got goals from Mike Snow, Andrew Wigg & Mickey MacDonald. Snow added two assists for a three point night. The Lions outshot the Lumberjacks 43-31. Lumberjacks fan Rick Wambolt dazzled the crowd as he took home $850 in Cleve's Source for Sports cash by putting 10 of 15 pucks in the net from the opposite blueline. The Lumberjacks take part in an exhibition game Saturday night when they travel to Liverpool to take on the RCMP. Then it is back to the Bridgewater Arena for a 7:00 PM Sunday night game against the second place Pictou Weeks Crushers. 

Lumberjacks lose 7-1 to the Slammers

Action started early in the Bridgewater Memorial Arena in the game between the Nauss Tim-BR Mart Lumberjacks and the Woodstock Slammers, with the Slammers taking the 1-0 lead with a powerplay goal two minutes into the first. The Lumberjacks answered with Scott Theriault who tied the game at 1-1 five minutes later. 

However this was all the resistance the Lumberjacks were able to show in their 3rd game in a row. The Slammers were able to find the net two more times in the first period (3-1) and four more times in the 2nd period. Philip Wright replaced Travis Hall in the net during the 2nd frame. There was no scoring action during the 3rd period.

The Lumberjacks are hosting the Halifax Lions in Bridgewater on Friday, Jan. 22nd at 7:00pm.

Lumberjacks get 2 points in Yarmouth

 The Lumberjacks played their second game in as many nights in Yarmouth against the Mariners and they were able to get the much needed two points with a 6-5 win in a "special-teams game".

Lumberjacks found themselves trailing in the first after Desveaux opened the score for Yarmouth on the powerplay. Matt Snow (who was the 3rd star of the game with 2 goals and 1 assist) responded on the powerplay to tie the game and two minutes later he gave 'Jacks the 2-1 lead. Philip Wright in net went 22/23 in the first period.

Mariners tied the game in the 2nd period, again on the powerplay with Coombs and Jake Lewis (1 goal, 2 assists) gave Bridgewater the lead again (3-2). Mike Snow extended the lead for Bridgewater to 4-2 with another powerplay goal. Desveaux recorded his second goal for the night, this time shorthanded and cut the lead to 4-3. 

Innes deadlocked the game 4-4 with a powerplay goal in the 3rd period. Tony Pisano responded with a powerplay goal and gave the lead 5-4 to the Lumberjacks while Jordan Burke made the score 6-4 with an empty net goal. With just seconds on the clock the Marines scored on the powerplay (Hayes) to make it the final 6-5.

Tony Pisano was the first star of the game. The Lumberjacks went 3/5 on the powerplay while the Mariners were 4/7.

Action continues Sun., Jan. 17th for the Lumberjacks who are playing their 3rd game in as many days. The Slammers are visiting the Bridgewater Memorial Arena at 3pm. Kids get a free Lumberjacks poster (while supplies last). 

Lumberjacks lose their first 2010 home game

A rough start for the Lumberjacks in their first 2010 home game against the Amherst Ramblers. A crowd of approx. 600 fans eager for some hockey action gathered at the Bridgewater Memorial Arena only to go home disappointed after the 8-4 loss.

The action started half way in the first when Barron opened the score for the Ramblers. The first period ended 2-0 for the Ramblers after a goal from Mathieu. The Lumberjacks returned fired up in the 2nd and Mickey Macdonald scored on the powerplay. Less than a minute later, Barron scored his second of the game to give Amherst a 3-1 lead. Ryan Getson made it 3-2 and Street answered for Amherst (4-2).

Philip Wright replaced Travis Hall in the net. Jake Lewis scored on the powerplay (4-3) and captain Jeff Marchand tied the game 4-4 six seconds later.   It seemed that the Lumberjacks had gained the momentum and they were about to change the game over, but two minutes later Coleman gave Amherst the lead again 5-4.

In the 3rd period the Ramblers continued to find the back of the net with Barron getting a hat trick (6-4) on the powerplay, Coleman getting his second for the evening (7-4) and Matthews making it the final 8-4. Travis Hall replaced Philip Wright in net again.

Tony Pisano was the 3rd star of the game for the Lumberjacks with two assists and a tilt with Mathieu during the 2nd frame.
